The price kills it.You can’t change the world if your product prices out the general public from regular use. Solar panels, cricket flour, this stuff… The only thing Shark Tank does more than fetishizing entrepreneurship is overpricing products they romanticize as being good for the planet. Things like this end up novelty one off purchases. To JADA’s credit, they didn’t pretend to be saving the world as much as some other pitches, but yeah, they ain’t. I’m a meat eater who is willing to eat less. I’ve been using substitutes more and more trying to find ones that work for me. But when I can buy two whole chickens and have change leftover for the price of one box of this stuff? It doesn’t work. We can’t all spend hundreds at Whole Foods every week and afford to pick a box of this stuff up regularly..A box that is entirely too small. It’s a matter of circumstance that this thing ended up the size it did. The product settles and separates. By its nature you have to mix it all at once to make sure the measurements are correct for it to turn out right. Any more volume and they’d have to divide it in to packets and increase their packing costs within the box (which they can more than afford at these prices). Either way this current box size situation has two glaringly bad side effects; The first is that it is enough you can end up with leftovers. The already cooked leftovers have a sizable drop off in texture compared to when you first fry them “fresh”. The stuff gets more rubbery after a night in the fridge and a reheat. And the second flaw with this amount is that it entirely negates the benefit of shelf life! It’s all or nothing when you cook it. It’s priced too high to buy in bulk. Honestly the box you bought as a novelty and want to try out will stay on your shelf for a shorter amount of time than most meat you buy. Kills the best selling point this thing has going for it. Amazing shelf life that you never get to take advantage of.There’s plenty to like though. This IS the best fake meat I’ve had. Real decent “processed” meat texture. Best preparation style. Best cooking freedom all around. They really don’t point it out well enough, but you have to treat this stuff like a ground meat. You don’t make a burger without seasoning it. You don’t make a meatball without adding ingredients to it. Etc. The reviews citing bland flavor are not homes you would want to go to for a cookout. You have to season this stuff! Which is why it is amazing. Anything I’d do with ground meat (particularly chicken) I can replicate with this stuff. Frying it up gives it a good crust and then the inside texture is comparable to a (very) processed chicken patty or nugget meat. Except it isn’t rat parts and garbage, it’s simple and clean ingredients. And it is nice to have a non-soy option with a meat alternative too. I truly loved the stuff and would’ve really enjoy testing the limits of what I could do with it.But at this price it is a novelty. It is a gag gift. It is an impulse buy. It is a one off purchase. It could be a pantry staple. It could be a worthwhile meat replacement. It could be a good use of shelf life.Shark shouldacouldawoulda Tank strikes again.

Ok think I got the wrong stuff. Unless the package has changed…..I got the stuff in the red bag. Anyway, whatever. I was waiting on this to arrive because I was dying to try it! It’s good…really good!! I’ve been vegan for 5 years now and always trying different forms of meat substitutes. This is definitely something I’m ordering again. I actually didn’t add any extra spices to it because I wanted to see what I was working with. I actually don’t think I have to add anything. The only complaint I have is that it doesn’t give you air frying directions.

Ok, so we snagged a box of this mix since my husband and I are trying to incorporate more vegetarian and meat-free meals into our diet. What I love about this option is that not only does it give a unique texture, but it’s also shelf-stable! While I know some people have given it lower ratings due to flavor- I have to ask, don’t your season regular chicken? Yes, ok then the same should apply to a chicken alternative.I will say the first patty I made was more experimental than the rest, and you may want to make a sample piece first until you’re used to making this product. After assessing the amount of seasoning to use, and the cooking process, the rest came out perfect. My husband even requested that we order it again because he took the leftovers to work and said they held up great! Excited to try even more of their products in the future.

Like other reviewers, I saw this product on Shark Tank. The hosts really seemed to enjoy it so I figured I would give it a try. This product arrives as a dry mix which you add water and a bit of oil to. This process was a bit off-putting, my partner described it as looking like wet cat food. Despite this, we did continue to form four decently sized patties, and pan fried them up. Visually, they looked great but the taste just wasn’t there for me. I notice the listing now indicates they are unseasoned, so perhaps it would be improved with some seasoning.Unfortunately, the cost makes it a product that I would buy as a one-off novelty and not on a regular basis.

I think this is a really good meat substitute considering the low amount of ingredients, and that it’s soy free. I don’t have a soy allergy myself, but I know it’s pretty common. You get used to an ingredients list that’s a paragraph long and looks more like a chemistry experiment than actual food, but that’s not the case here so that’s refreshing to see.I tried this a couple of different ways. I pan-fried patties of the mix, and ate by itself with salt & pepper, and some BBQ sauce, and also as part of a sandwich with lettuce, tomato and mayo. Both tasted better than most meat substitutes I’ve tried, and had a good meat-like texture.I think this is a great change of pace, and easy way to mix up your protein intake even if you’re not vegetarian. And if you are vegetarian, especially if you have food allergies, this is a great product to try.

I made 12 “chicken” nuggets out of this mix, and I thought they came out great! Pan fried until browned on both sides in a small amount of oil. They have a meaty texture and fry up well. I added sazon, salt, poultry seasoning, and more nutritional yeast flakes for extra flavor. I look forward to trying these with Jada’s seasonings, as well. All-in-all, I think this is a very good and tasty chicken substitute (albeit a tad dry). (And if you have children, in particular, I think that these would make a great alternative to the traditional chicken nuggets!). I make, purchase, and eat plant-based meat and chicken substitutes on a regular basis. (I am vegetarian bordering on vegan; my husband is total vegan.) I will order this again and add the Jada’s seasonings to my order. Can’t wait to try them with their recommended seasonings!

It is the closest we’ve had that tastes like real chicken. It definitely tastes better with seasoning and dipping sauces. Just know, it still isn’t real chicken so of course doesn’t truly taste like it. The box is quite small – it feeds about two adults for one meal so we’ve ordered more boxes. Hopefully they bring the price point down after their sales go up. It was extremely fast and easy to make – no more than five minutes. It doesn’t have a weird aftertaste and it does make the house smell as though real chicken is cooking.

If this was cheaper I’d buy on subscription definitely. The taste was bland but that’s my fault as it says season this as it has no flavor. I’m sure it’d taste a lot better if I seasoned more. The texture was not great nor the smell but I would buy this again as it was filling and easy to cook. I chose to fry it in a skillet and it was ready in five. Would buy again if cheaper. Try this and see if it’s worth it for you.

This was a lot of fun to try with different spices and for a new option for a vegetarian protein without soy. The outside was really crunchy and cooked up well- the middle was a little chewy. We cooked it on the stove- we may try it in the oven next time. There are a lot of ways to use this product so it is a great addition to our recipes.
