When I sampled this brand’s mini choc chip cookies at our local co-op, I LOVED them! When I saw on Amazon that they offered a similar treat in bar form, I ordered a bunch. Such a disappointment. The bars are a lot sweeter and contain very few chocolate chips so I can hardly detect the taste of dark chocolate as I could when enjoying one of their (relatively) nutritious little cookies. One bag of their similar cookies weighs the same as one of these bars, but the bars are very different in taste and texture. Too sticky and too sweet for my taste. Plus, they are very small (to make them just 100 calories, no doubt), and their wrapper is so tight that I find them difficult to open. It’s a real effort to peel back the wrapper to eat it! Much more troubling, though, is that their normal-looking, very strong plastic wrapper is lined with a very delicate, separate layer of ultra-thin, almost invisible plastic that I think can be seen in my photo.I’ve never noticed this before when opening many different protein bars. They are not sticky like this bar is, however, and that may be why this extra layer of thin plastic was added in this case. Although I don’t want to alarm anyone too much since there’s not much we can do as individuals about this, I’ve just read that our food supply is being contaminated by all the plastics used in our food system.Plastics contain “forever chemicals” (pthalamides, etc) that are both carcinogenic and endocrine disrupting (“gender benders”), and unhealthy levels of these are building up in our bodies from eating so many foods containing these chemicals. These chemicals are also in much of our drinking water and in the air many of us breathe inside our homes, too. Our carpets, house paints, furnishings and clothing also contain and emit them. Even the dust in our homes contains them, so we can’t escape them. All we can do is try to minimize our exposure.I’ve read that more of the worst of these chemicals are needed to make the more flexible types of plastic used in food containers. I’ve also read that Ziplock bags are “safe”, but because the substitute chemicals being used by some companies will likely be studied one day and found to be just as bad, I am trying hard to avoid plastics now by making more homemade foods that I store mostly in glass.I’m now paying lots more attention to what I buy premade and how it is packaged. All this is why it troubles me when I see how an additional layer of extra filmy plastic is being used to package the Made Good Granola Chip bar. I’ve decided not to buy them again and recommend you choose a different product, too, if you are older or have major health issues like me and my husband. Who knows how long boxes of these bars have been stored in their questionable double-plastic wrappers and at what temperature?Time and temperature can affect the amount of chemicals transferred to our foods. With all my autoimmune diseases and a husband with Parkinson’s, I will be giving these away to younger, healthier people to enjoy, although I am very tempted to just toss them.

I’ve always struggled to find a breakfast food that was both convenient and enjoyable, and when I didn’t spend the time to have that first meal my stomach would typically remind me. I’ve recently been trying to get into granola bars as hassle free way to put something in my stomach to carry me through the morning. Problem was, when I ate certain granola bars for breakfast, I found myself with heartburn by the end of the day. Then I came across a variety pack of Made Good granola mini clusters. I liked their short ingredient list, and the lack of additives, so I ordered them and really enjoyed their mixed berry (the chocolate chip gave me heartburn). I was looking for a box with just mixed berry and ended up with these bars, which are even more chewy and flavorful than the clusters. While they are a little bit on the small side, and the bar is very tightly wrapped, resulting in my fingers occasionally getting a little sticky, these have become my go-to breakfast during the week, a quick, delicious snack I can grab and and eat on the go.

My children did not love this flavor as much as others, but they will still use it. It’s good to know that we’re putting something in our bodies with a little less chemicals and junk!

I simply failed to read the description closely. I saw the dual-toned box and assumed it was a multi-pack of 2 flavors. Nope! Just one. Read the description and you won’t be disappointed!
