My Healthy Food Life is a small, independent publication. Here is who makes it, and what the bylines on our articles mean.
The Editor
G. Silverstone is the founder and editor of My Healthy Food Life, and the name is a pen name — we say so plainly, because we ask you to trust what you read here. Before he started writing about food, he spent about thirteen years inside the food industry across Asia, the United States, and Brazil: in food manufacturing, launching new kitchens, and working on company acquisitions. He holds a culinary certificate, works as a freelance writer, and divides his time between New York and San Francisco. He founded the site in Brooklyn in 2020, writes every Table Notes essay under this name, leads the desks below, and is responsible for everything published here.
MHFL Test Kitchen
The byline on our recipes. The Test Kitchen is our home kitchen in Northern California, where every recipe on this site is cooked and photographed before it is published, and re-cooked when we update it. Recipes are developed and written by the editor; reader variations are folded into each recipe’s “Make It Yours” section.
The Report Desk
The byline on our reported articles, evidence checks, and product tests. Report Desk articles are researched with AI assistance, then verified against primary sources, written, and fact-checked by the editor. Every Report Desk article lists its sources. Where an article has been reviewed by a registered dietitian, the reviewer is credited by name on the article.
Origins Desk
The byline on our ingredient-history stories. Origins Desk articles draw on food-history scholarship, museum and archival sources, and the published work of named researchers, all listed under “Further Reading” at the end of each piece. Written by the editor.
Guest contributors
Essays in Guest Table and occasional Report Desk pieces are written by real, named contributors who appear with their own bios. We do not publish under invented names or personas. If you would like to write for us, email myhealthyfoodlife.com@gmail.com.
About the desk bylines
A “desk” byline means the article was produced by our editorial process rather than a single guest writer — the way a newspaper’s test kitchen or research desk signs its work. It is not a person. Our full process is described in our Editorial Standards.
