What is K-Pop superstar BTS’s favorite foods?

BTS was nominated for TOP1 single on the Billboard chart. BTS’ songs were sensational hit on global market, and 2020 became the year of BTS. The English song ‘Dynamic’ was super famous all around the world by cheerful melody of disco. Dynamic remained at the top of the Billboard’s main singles chart for three weeks and was later included in the HOT 100 with its mini-album BE.

BTS is not only acting on K-pop but also creating the Korean Wave, “Hallyu(Korean wave)” in the world. What comes to mind when you see the word “Hallyu(Korean wave)”? Korean drama, Korean food, Hanbok? Today, Let’s talk about Korean foods. What Korean food comes to your mind right now? Maybe it would be Kimchi or bibimbap. Well, there are a bunch of Korean foods than we thought. Korean food is characterized by fermented food, which is very healthy. There is also another Korean style’s spicy taste that is different from Mexican and Southeast Asian one by using chili peppers.

There are countless kinds of Korean food. From daily kimbap to Korean traditional course meal. Today, we will take a peek at Korean food through BTS’s favorite Korean cuisine, Each of the seven members of BTS has a favorite Korean dish, what are they?

V – Kkomak Bibimbap

Real name is Kim Tae-hyung. Sub-vocalist. He has won first place for 2 years in a row at the Korea Most Handsome & Beautiful 2019 with his handsome face. Bibimbap is the representative food of Korea! You can put many ingredients in bibimbap. If you add oyster, it becomes oyster bibimbap. If you put kimchi, It will be a kimchi bibimbap. V likes bibimbap with seafood called kkomak! It is a food with shellfish that is popular in the West Sea and South Sea of Korea.

RM – Kalguksu

Real name is Kim Nam-joon, the leader and main rapper of BTS. RM represents “Rap Monster”, and his rapping skills are quite good. Recently He was on the Billboard 100 Hot Singer Songwriter TOP100 with Suga.

RM’s favorite kalguksu is a noodle dish made by kneading flour and pushing it thinly and thinning it with a knife. At this time, kalguksu is named according to the ingredients that make the soup taste. For example, if you taste the soup with clams, it’s called clam kalguksu. There are many kinds of kalguksu such as chicken kalguksu and anchovy kalguksu.

Jin – Bulgogi

Real name is Kim Seokjin, and sub-vocal at BTS. He released his own song, “Moon,” which ranked seventh in music journalist Rob Sheffield’s Top 25 Songs of 2020.  His favorite food is bulgogi! There is also a posting on BTS’s official blog about cooking bulgogi (2014).


At on TV show, Jin told he ate 12 dishes of bulgogi with actor Lee Won-geun. Bulgogi is one of the representative dishes of Korean food like Bibimbap. It is a traditional Korean food that has been eaten for thousands of years. It is a dish that is eaten by cutting beef into thin slices and mixing it with marinade. Bulgogi is popular all over the world because it suits the taste for non-Korean as well. You can easily find this dish in Korean restaurant in US.


Jung Kook – Black Bean Noodles (Jajangmyeon)

Real name is Jeon Jung-kook, main vocalist, subdancer, and lead dancer. He is BTS’s youngest member. Recently, He was named on the world’s sexiest men’s 12-member list in 2020 in the women’s fashion magazine GRAZIA France with Brad Pitt and Michael B. Jungkook was the only Asian on the list.

It is true that Jajangmyeon is known as a Chinese food, and it is classified as a Chinese dish in Korean restaurants. However, if you have tried Chinese Jajangmyeon and Korean Jajangmyeon, the taste of the two is very different. We can not say they are same food. So Jajangmyeon is a Korean-style localized food. Korean Jajangmyeon is a food that stir-fry black soybean paste, vegetables and meat with oil and mixes them with noodle. The sauce has black color.

J-HOPE – Soy Bean Paste Stew with Shrimp

His real name is Jung Hoseok. He’s a sub rapper and main dancer of BTS. He is a famous for his marvelous dancing skill. His self-composed song “Byung” has been listed on Esquire’s Best of 2020 in the U.S. and it was an only Korean song.

J-HOPE likes all kinds of food with shrimp. One of the most delicious dishes you can make with shrimp is soybean paste stew! Boil soybean paste as the main ingredient and add vegetables and other ingredients such as salt, tofu, zucchini, and onions. It tastes a little salty and spicy.

Suga – Tteokbokki

Real name is Min Yoongi. He produced JUMP and Heungtan Boys. His position is lead rappers. Although he hasn’t been on stage recently due to injuries, BTS members and fans are all hoping Suga will come back.

By the way, His favorite food is tteokbokki. Even right before going on stage, Suga of BTS always eats tteokbokki when he sees it in front of his eyes. Tteokbokki is a food which is boiling rice cake and fish cake with red pepper paste sauce. At first, add water and boil it, but the soup is boiled down, so there is not much water left. It features the spicy taste of pepper and chewy texture of rice cake.

Jimin – Kimchi

His real name is Park Jimin. Lead vocalist and main dancer. He has really good self-managing skill. As a result, he won first place in the Boy Group’s personal brand evaluation index in December 2020.

Jimin can’t live without kimchi! He needs kimchi when he eats pasta. Kimchi is well-known Korean traditional food. Salted in salt water and fermented to season vegetables such as cabbage and radish. Many people think that kimchi only has a spicy taste mixed with red pepper, but there are also water kimchi which is never spicy. Kimchi is a fermented food, so it is nutritious!



BTS’s all seven members are attractive. Today, we learned about Korean food menus that each members like. Soon 2020 will end and the new year will come, and we are expecting BTS will come back with amazing stages following Billboard charts and various awards of this year. BTS is a true musician and artist, not just a singer. They are full of their own colors and compositions!
